My Story
Age: 24
Started: March 2023

I came to Talk Scoop as a backpacker having spent the previous 4 months in South Australia, Fiji, New Zealand. Before this I completed my masters degree in biochemistry in the UK and worked as a secondary school science teacher. My background was very academically focused, and I had never considered a role in sales before, expecting my time in Talk Scoop to be 6 weeks at most!

I started off in the lead generation side of the business, progressing quickly to a team leader position, enabling me to assist newcomers. I was surprised at the travel opportunities I had within this role - both with roadtrips with the rest of the team and also to Brisbane to aid some training and recruitment. The rigorous daily training sessions on sales techniques, persuasion, and communication, along with guidance from experienced and varied salespersons, greatly enhanced my own sales skills and performance. Within two months at the company I had surpassed my own earning goals - hitting over $2000/week two weeks running in May.
In October I was promoted to the position of Sales Support and Quality Control Specialist. My responsibilities included verifying customer information, assessing the viability of solar installations, and providing technical support. I coordinated the schedules of our sales team, ensuring efficiency and maximizing sales performance. My contributions led to achieving our best sales day since 2021. The rigorous daily training sessions on sales, persuasion, and communication, along with guidance from experienced managers, greatly enhanced my sales skills and performance. I consistently met and exceeded targets, receiving recognition for my dedication and results.

I have recently returned to the UK and after a summer of Europe travel, will be settling into a long-term career in the science and business world. Having loved working in a sales and customer-facing environment with each day different, I completely shifted my perspective on how I want to use my biochemistry degree in a career.

My time at Talk Scoop taught me the importance of persistence, adaptability, and effective communication, which have been invaluable in my subsequent roles.
